Celebrating its sesquicentennial year...

Founded in 1869, Weir & Sons is one of Ireland’s best-known retailers. Housed in a landmark building on Dublin's Grafton Street, the jewellers remains a family-run business, with fourth and fifth generation family members, involved today.

While the company's recently ventured into stocking affordable brands, Weir & Sons are now going back to their high-end roots to celebrate their 150th anniversary.

Keeping the importance of family history alive, Weir & Sons have collaborated with Patek Phillippe to mark this milestone anniversary. The last family-owned independent Genevan watch manufacturer has created a limited edition timepiece which has been specially designed to symbolise the past and future of Weir & Sons in its sesquicentennial year.

An integral part of the commemorative watch is the jewel-like emerald green colour, a hue that not only draws on Weir & Sons’ proud Irish heritage, but reaches right back into the archives of the business, whose early packaging came in a vibrant green shade, while an old safe from the 1920s also came in a striking verdant colour. The bespoke piece pays homage to this heritage with a unique green sunburst dial featuring gold applied hour markers while the watch is further enriched with Patek Philippe’s statement alligator strap rendered in verdant green. On the rim of the sapphire-crystal back, the words Weir & Sons and 150th Anniversary are distinctly engraved to mark the historic occasion. The watch also comes complete with a pair of Patek Philippe Calatrava Cross cufflinks in white gold to match.

Speaking about the 150th anniversary, Director of Weir & Sons, Chris Andrews explained the significance of this rare collaboration:

"This really is a combination of centuries of almost unrivalled watch craftsmanship from Patek Philippe and generations of passionate knowledge at Weir & Sons. It is a piece we hope people love right now, but then can also treasure forever. It symbolises our great heritage as Ireland’s premier watch retailer, but it's more than that. It captures a part of our essence – a quality and longevity that is totally unique to us.”
